In 1993 a formal lease agreement for the 1105 acres was entered into in an effort to limit liability for the Lum Family, Through the years, Gene and Bill developed a lasting friendship. The two friends, along with help from others, worked to improve the property until Mr. Lum's health declined to the point he could not venture out.
From the beginning, a MS conservation program (DMAP) was implemented to improve the wildlife habitat and quality of wildlife. The use of the DMAP program was a first for this area of the State. This program has been a proven model and is one of the best in the State of MS.
In 1983 St. John purchased 350 acres from Harold Dungan which became the first tract of land to be held as St. John Land Company.
